Birth Affirmations – guest post

The following is a guest post from soon-be-mama, Tanya.  We always love to hear and share real life parenting and breastfeeding journeys.  If you want to share yours, please email
I am an expecting mom and a visual artist.  I would like to share my story of using Birth Affirmations in preparation for my upcoming labour.
A few months ago I was talking to one of my girlfriends about the number of fears and worries that pregnant women deal with.  She suggested to read a book on  HypnoBirthing written by Marie Mongan. The book was very reassuring and gave practical tools how to transform fears to positive beliefs. One of the recommended tools was to listen to Birth affirmations on regular basis.
Since I am a visual person, I decided to transform Birth Affirmations on paper. I added to the text relevant illustrations of pregnant women and floral designs. When coloured they look as visual cards that pregnant woman could use as reminders on the wall.
Colouring books on their own are therapeutical for adults who want to distract themselves from daily stress and explore their creative side. I found that creating this  colouring book was very helpful in exploring my beliefs that I had about being pregnant, labour and breastfeeding and getting an inner strength to believe that birth is a natural and joyous process.
The Colouring Book includes 11 affirmations, cover and introduction pages. Here are some examples of  affirmations included in the book: ‘I am focused on a smooth, easy birth’, ‘My baby is strong and healthy’, ‘I feel the love of others around me’ and more.
This colouring book is available in my Etsy shop ‘ColorInDesigns’ as a printable version:
Hope you will enjoy colouring it and it will give you a power for a joyous birth!

Did you use visualizations or hypnobirthing techniques in your labour?  What worked best for you?
