International Day to Normalize Breastfeeding
A very exciting and important declaration by the mayor of San Diego will be made on June 27th. Thanks to the hard work of Vanessa Simmons, a photographer and founder of NormalizeBreastfeeding.Org, it is hopeful that many other cities will follow suit and declare this day the International Day to Normalize Breastfeeding. This day is a proclamation of support and awareness to breastfeeding mothers everywhere.
Normalizing breastfeeding is so important!
Normalizing breastfeeding is so important because, even though it is natural, it is not always easy. We often have many obstacles to overcome, such as poor latch, sore nipples, and mastitis; we shouldn’t also have to worry about acceptance and ignorance out in public! I hope this campaign will help mother’s reach their breastfeeding goals, feel confident and proud to feed their babies out and about, and encourage new moms to seek the help and support they need to continue breastfeeding their children until they are ready to stop.
