3 Tips for Easy Breastfeeding in Public

Let me first say that breastfeeding in a restroom is not my idea of breastfeeding in public. Breastfeeding in public means to nurse your baby wherever and whenever she is hungry.

Here are a few tips to make your experience more enjoyable:

  1. Do it gradually. Practice at home with family members first, then go to breastfeeding-friendly cafes and restaurants, ideally with other nursing friends, and then you will be so skilled that you will not be afraid of any public setting.
  2. Wear clothing that allows you to nurse discreetly: a nursing bra under a nursing top or a blouse that you can unbutton from bottom to top.
  3. Do not wait until your baby is crying to nurse her. Do it at the first signs of hunger (fists in her mouth, suckling sound or rooting). It is much simpler – and discreet – to nurse a quiet baby than a fussy one.

I hope this helps !

  1. i agree….nursing in a bathroom is no good for either party involved! 🙂 i’d add that, as far as easy-to-nurse-in clothing, i typically wear a confortable stretch-knit type top over a longer camisole. i can just pulled the top shirt up and the bottom shirt down under my breast, and no one’s any the wiser!
